ASUS supplies its products to the market under the ASUS and ROG brands. The update policy for them does not differ in any way, the owners of “gaming” devices cannot expect to be provided with any extended service in terms of updates. Officially, the company does not declare any general update policy for its devices, it is determined exclusively for each specific model and is not always voiced. For the latest top models Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip 2 years of OS updates are declared. At the same time, they have already received the first one, moving to Android 12 in January 2022. And that was fast, just three months after the release of the stable version of the OS from Google. In comparison, for the Zenfone 7 series, Android 11 became available 8 months after Google’s release. Incidentally, the Zenfone 7 series itself was rather unexpectedly updated to Android 12 in 2022, although the units were released in 2020, so theoretically support could have been discontinued with the end of 2021. In this case, ASUS has demonstrated that it’s the spirit of OS updates, not the letter, that it follows – just two years and two big updates.

As for the ROG series, the ROG Phone 3, 5 and 5s handsets received the update to Android 12. “Three” is also a model from 2020, so we can state that ASUS really gives two big updates to its flagships. Unfortunately, the timing could be very different.
